Somerset Valley YMCA divers make splash at national competitions
While the USA, Great Britain and China battled over who would win the gold in diving in the 2012 Summer Olympics, some young members of the Somerset Valley YMCA’s Lords of the Boards diving team captured a few medals of their own at national diving events this summer. Three members of the Y team competed in the 2012 Junior National Diving Championships in August in Greensboro, NC, an event that features the best divers in the country. Seventeen cars parked along First Street in Raritan were vandalized on Aug. 21 and 22 and now a $1,000 reward is being offered to solve the crimes, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano. The reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers of Somerset County, Inc. for information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for the vandalism. The Somerset County Board of Freeholders introduced the 2012 county budget at its April 10 meeting. A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held April 30 at 5:30 p.m. The $210.9-million budget plan shows a decrease in overall spending of $100,164 from last year’s $211-million budget.
