Gaston Avenue Bakery shuts its doors
The Gaston Avenue Bakery, once a destination for many people, has apparently gone out of business.
The store is empty and several closed signs are on the door and front windows and their phone is no longer is service.
Started in 1953, the bakery at 85 N. Gaston Ave. had been one of the area’s top bakeries, with people coming for miles to get cakes and bread, but it had changed owners in recent years. Many people thought it was not as good recently.
The bakery had been part of a plan for a major expansion of the building right before the national economy collapsed. An adjacent store to the bakery has been unoccupied for about 10 years.
The only bakery left in Somerville is the Dessert Plate on Main St.
